I also took a trip Saturday Morning to see Shorty Palmer and ask him to tune my drum. Shorty is another of my favorite things about drumSTRONG. Shorty Palmer is the man who I indirectly bought my drum through, and the person who originally headed it. He knows his way around a drum like few people on earth, and is a wealth of information and stories. This year he told the story of the time he gave Mickey Heart a drum, while he pulled the verticals on my drum. A quick word about my drum, as she's very dear to me and a big part of my life and my practice. Her name is named Autumn, and she has always sounded amazing, but with this last head I put on her, she has been phenomenal! I am so blessed to have a drum this beautiful, and by the time Shorty had finished tightening the verticals, she simply sang. I hardly had to kiss her head with my fingertips and she would croon. She didn't shout, but her voice was clear and strong and impossibly crisp. Sorta like what a mythical hero might feel like when he's given a magical weapon. So it was, with an enchanted drum and blessed with supernatural energies, I marched off to the circle.

"I could have sold that guinee drum three times tonight. Took it to a festival in Orlando tonight, showed it to a few few folks, and let my friend Mark play it onstage with Greywolf & Co. I want you to know that drum stayed crisp and sharp while everybody else's drums were wilting in the humidity. Please don't stop making drums like that..., it's an exceptionally good drum. I need to come back up and learn the special mojo that goes into making a drum like that!"

Shorty, I ordered 2 goatskins and 120ft of rope 2 days ago. Too my surprise they arrived today. I am excited! Of the two skins, one had a nice "holiday" near the rear. Since my djembe has a 20in rim, it wouldn't quite work out. I called Shorty up, and he said no problem, I am sending you a new one now... and keep the old one just in case I have a smaller drum.
